How To Sew Ribbons On Your Pointe Shoes
- Fold the heel of the shoe down to meet the insole.
- Mark the inside of the fold along the crease with a pencil. The back edge of the ribbon will sit along this line.
- Ribbon should overlap shoe by at least one inch.
- Pin the ribbons in place so you can check that they’re placed evenly
- Using strong thread (some dancers use dental floss), sew the ribbon securely onto the shoe, trying to catch only the lining, in a square pattern.
- For a neater and stronger finish, fold the bottom end of the ribbon under so the rough edge does not show and you are sewing through a double thickness of ribbon.
- Melt the ends of the trimmed ribbons with a lighter / match so they don’t fray.
